How to Pick the Right Size and Fit for Your Squeex Bag
Choosing the right backpack comes down to four quick checks. Grab a measuring tape and your everyday gear, and you'll be ready in about 10 minutes.
Step 1: Measure Your Daily Carry
Set out everything you carry at least twice a week: laptop, charger, binders, water bottle, and any extra tech. Estimate the total volume by adding up the rough sizes. A standard 3-inch binder is around 1.5 liters, a 15-inch laptop with charger adds 3 liters, and a 500-milliliter water bottle takes 0.5 liters. If your total comes to 20 liters or more, skip the 18-liter Minimal Daily Pack and go with the Classic Campus 25L.
Step 2: Check the Laptop Sleeve
Measure your laptop's diagonal screen size and its actual height. The Classic Campus Backpack has a 17-inch internal sleeve, so it comfortably fits 15.6-inch laptops even with a hard shell case. The Minimal Daily Pack only accommodates up to 13 inches, so forcing a bigger laptop will stretch the seam and risk screen damage.
Step 3: Test the Straps While Loaded
Stand with the bag fully packed and look at the shoulder straps in a mirror. The straps should sit about 1 to 2 inches from the base of your neck. If they gap or pull sideways, the bag is too wide or the straps aren't positioned right. Choose straps that are at least 2 inches wide, especially if you're carrying more than 10 pounds.
Step 4: Inspect the Back Panel
A framed back panel with airflow channels keeps your shirt from getting soaked on warm days. The Classic Campus Backpack uses a flat padded back panel that works for short walks, but if you're trekking more than 15 minutes, look for a bag with a curved mesh back instead. The mesh version costs a bit more but pays off in comfort.
Pro tip: Put your heaviest items closest to your back. That lowers the center of gravity and can cut shoulder strain by around 30 percent. Avoid the habit of keeping your laptop in the front pocket, because that pulls the whole bag forward.
